Mac's "Tying Foam Trout Flies" Class
The class on Foam Trout Flies will be held Saturday February 4th. In this class Mac will tie “The Bee” and “Whitewater Golden Stone” as examples of foam trout flies. Each year, a significant number of new patterns get added to the catalogs but probably no more of any one kind than foam dry flies. In this class, Mac will demonstrate how to tie two foam dry flies of his own design for trout fishing in the Southern Appalachians.
Mac says, “Foam, as most tiers have found, is a very versatile and relatively easy material to work with and create durable, high floating dry flies that are perfect for the rough water found on most of the trout streams in our area.”
The cost of the class is $30. Free coffee and snacks will be available for those that attend the class. Participants may also register to win a free 2-person, full-day guided trip, valued at $340. The trip includes guide, transportation, lunch and all essential gear. The drawing will occur Sunday, April 1, 2012 during Headwaters Outfitters’ 20th anniversary celebration
Headwaters Outfitters’ fly shop stocks a full array of fly-tying materials and tools from suppliers such as Umpqua, Metz, Spirit River and Stillwater. The shop will have pre-selected tying materials available for each of the flies demonstrated by Mac.
