Guide Mac Marett will be tying two foam-bodied dry flies of his own invention. The first one, dubbed “The Bee,” is a high-floating terrestrial that is a brook trout killer in the summer and fall months when yellow jackets are active. The second fly, “The Whitewater Golden Stone,” was created specifically to imitate the summer hatches of golden stoneflies on the Whitewater River south of Cashiers. It, too, floats like a cork but sports a realistic profile that brings even jaded fish off the bottom to inhale it. The Whitewater Golden Stone is also beefy enough to hold up a heavy Prince nymph when fishing a dry-and-dropper rig. The class can accommodate up to 20 participants. If you’re going to tie, please bring a vise and basic fly tying tools (bobbin, scissors, whip finisher, etc.)”
