This 11-pounder is considered average, but the pull he gave was super-sized!

Try Your Luck Carp Fishing!

In Europe, fishing for carp and other “rough” fish has been a popular pastime for centuries. Now American anglers – both bait and fly fishermen - are falling in love with the sport of carp fishing. As anyone who has hooked a carp can attest, these hefty brutes fight harder and longer than just about any gamefish you’ll ever hook!

Headwaters Outfitters Adventure Village offers a one-acre carp pond full of fish weighing from 4 to 30 pounds. The fishing pond is open to the public year-round, as well as providing village tenants with the opportunity to catch that fish of a lifetime. After a quick photograph, all carp must be released. Monthly tournaments during the spring, summer and fall add to the challenge of hooking and landing these whiskered, magnum-sized members of the minnow family.

Although tournament fishermen are the masters of enticing carp to eat, you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the fun! Just rent a carp rod, a rod holder and some flavored bait from our Village Store and you’ll be fishing within minutes. Our friendly staff will gladly help explain the basics of getting the bait down, where the carp generally do their feeding. For fly anglers, we offer a special “fly fishing only” morning every Wednesday, allowing long-rodders to stalk these big, wary fish without worrying about crossing other lines in the water.

Our carp pond is a relaxing place to spend an afternoon in search of Mr. BigHeadwaters Outfitters Adventure Village hosts carp tournaments on the third weekend of every month, except during the winter. Tournaments offer carp fishermen several chances to win some cash: an hourly big and small fish pot, and a nightly big and small fish pot. But you don’t have to enter a tournament to win big at Headwaters Outfitters’ carp pond. Put a dollar in one of four jugs (a daily, 12-lb, 14-lb. and 16 lb. pot) and if your carp hits that weight on our digital scales, you could win anywhere from a few bucks to several hundred dollars, depending on how much has accrued.

Whether you’re fishing for fun on your own or part of an organized tournament, rest assured that carp fishing is a family-friendly pastime at Headwaters Outfitters’ Adventure Village. No alcohol, drugs or loud music is permitted and our regulars are a friendly bunch, who are willing to help a fellow “carper” land a big fish or offer advice about rigging. In addition to rental rods, and rod holders, food and beverages are conveniently available at our Village Store. We also sell a variety of scented carp baits, rice, millet, corn, hooks, strike-alert beepers and other fishing accessories.
