Traditional Mountain Sports
Fly Fishing Camp

The day begins, literally, by getting our feet wet! Campers discover first-hand what’s on the menu for trout. With nets in hand, we’ll explore a pristine mountain stream to catch aquatic critters such as crayfish, stoneflies and mayflies. While looking up-close at the things we find, we teach a little about the different stages of their fascinating lifecycle. The knowledge gained here is essential for knowing what fly to put on the end of the line.
Campers are then introduced to all the gear they will be using in their quest to catch a big one, including rods, reels, line, leader and tippet. We teach each camper how to cast on a small, stocked pond, where there are no trees to worry about getting hung-up in. Campers will enjoy lunch beside a primitively started fire, where they will get a chance to cook and eat what they catch over an open flame.

The rest of the day will be spent honing our fishing skills while chasing after the brightly colored rainbow, brown, and brook trout that lurk in the emerald green pools and riffles of our local mountain streams.
